The Tier 1 (General) category allows highly skilled people to come to the UK to look for work or self-employment opportunities. The applicant does not need to have a job offer in the UK to apply as a highly skilled worker. On applying, points are awarded based on Qualification, Previous earnings, UK experience, Age, English language skills and Maintenance funds. Point required to qualify:
- 75 points for your attributes (Age, Qualifications, Previous earnings, and UK experience);

These will be awarded if applying for permission to stay in the United Kingdom and have £800 in available funds.
Outside the UK
These will be awarded if applying for entry clearance and have £2,800 in available funds. The £2,800 should be in the account for at least three months before applying.
